Adhesives, Industry News, Sealants,

Covestro has opened a new Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPU) Application Development Center in Guangzhou, China, expanding its technical and application support footprint in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Covestro, the new center is part of a broader TPU network in the region that includes its production site in Zhuhai, China, and its existing regional R&D center in Changhua, Taiwan. The company stated that the three locations are intended to create an integrated structure spanning research and development, application development, and large-scale manufacturing.

Covestro reported that demand for TPU materials continues to grow across Asia-Pacific, particularly in South China, driven by sectors such as consumer electronics, automotive, and specialty films. The company said the Guangzhou center is intended to strengthen its ability to work more closely with customers on material development and application-specific requirements.

Dr. Andrea Maier-Richter, Global Head of TPU at Covestro, said the center is part of the company’s strategy to expand in higher-value and emerging market segments in Asia-Pacific. She noted that the site is intended to support work in areas including robotics, healthcare, and mobility applications.

According to Covestro, the new center includes processing simulation lines that replicate production conditions, allowing for formulation adjustments and material modification under development-scale conditions. The company stated that the site also brings together Engineering Plastics and Specialty Films teams to support collaboration across compounding, color matching, pilot production, and finished product commissioning.

Covestro said the center is now open for collaboration with customers and partners across Asia-Pacific.
