W. R. MEADOWS Introduces Hydrophilic Waterstop System for Concrete Joints and Penetrations
W. R. MEADOWS has introduced WATERSTOP HPW and WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW, two hydrophilic waterstop products designed to help prevent water migration through construction joints and penetrations in concrete and reinforced concrete structures.
WATERSTOP HPW is a hydrophilic swell strip made from synthetic rubber for non-moving construction joints at footings, walls, floors, tunnels, parking decks, plaza decks, and around penetrations. According to the company, the strip provides controlled swelling, retains its shape through wet-dry cycles, and offers water-stopping performance at pressures up to 87 psi.
WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW is a one-component, gun-grade polyurethane sealant that can swell up to 500% when exposed to water. It is designed for non-moving construction and cold joints, pipe penetrations, and cable wall inlets and is formulated to adhere to concrete, metal, and PVC while remaining elastic after cure.
The two products can also be used together. WATERSTOP LIQUID HPW can fill cracks, voids, and surface depressions before installation of the strip and serves as an adhesive for WATERSTOP HPW. On rough concrete, the liquid material is intended to improve contact while helping prevent water or fresh concrete from moving beneath the strip.
“Effective waterproofing depends on how well the joints and penetrations are addressed,” said Donnie Kruger, Product Manager, Building Envelope, for W. R. MEADOWS. He said the two products give contractors complementary strip and gunnable options for sealing different joint and penetration conditions.
