Henkel Expands Heavy Equipment Sealant Line with Tin-Free SMP Formulation

Adhesives, Industry News, Sealants,

Henkel has introduced Teroson MS 9381 HPT, a tin-free adhesive sealant developed for interior and exterior heavy equipment and vehicle applications.

According to Henkel, the single-component, moisture-cure, silane-modified polymer (SMP) formulation is designed to meet regulatory requirements while eliminating tin, solvents, isocyanates, silicones, and PVC. The company stated that the product is intended for applications such as cabin window glazing, side panel and roof skin bonding, and seam and joint sealing.

Henkel reported that the adhesive sealant is UV resistant and compatible with multiple substrates. The company also said the material is designed to simplify application by reducing the process to two steps, compared with three steps typically associated with conventional polyurethane systems.

Leandro Pedro, Global Head of Market Strategy – Core and Value Segments at Henkel, said manufacturers in the heavy equipment sector are facing increasing pressure related to efficiency, safety, and sustainability, and noted that the new adhesive sealant was developed to address those requirements through simplified processing and updated formulation design.

Henkel stated that the material’s high thixotropy and high position tack are intended to support handling and application performance. The company also indicated that use of a single material across multiple applications may help reduce supply chain and inventory complexity.

In addition, Henkel reported that the formulation eliminates several substances of very high concern and may reduce cradle-to-gate CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared with traditional polyurethane processes, based on data generated using its Henkel Environmental Assessment Reporting Tool (HEART).
