Overview:
Lightweight fillers in sealants enable density reduction, improved workability, and cost optimization while maintaining key mechanical and durability performance in building joints. This webinar will outline formulation strategies, performance tradeoffs, and application considerations for incorporating such fillers into high-performance sealants. Architectural sealants for curtain walls, precast panels, and glazing are increasingly engineered with lightweight inorganic and polymeric fillers, such as expanded perlite, polymeric/hollow microspheres, hollow ceramic microspheres, hollow glass microspheres and other technologies, to reduce density and increase yield without compromising or having minimal impact to movement capability, weatherability and other key properties. By tailoring particle size distribution, compressibility, crush strength, and surface treatment, formulators can control rheology, sag resistance, and thermal insulation while limiting water uptake and maintaining long-term joint integrity. This webinar will review selection criteria for lightweight fillers in silicone, polyurethane, water-based and hybrid sealant chemistries; discuss interactions with thixotropes and plasticizers; and present case data demonstrating impacts on rheology, density, strength properties, cost, VOC and application properties. Implementation guidelines covering mixing and dispersion, quality control of filler properties, and alignment with relevant sealant design standards will be highlighted to support the robust use of lightweight fillers in sustainable, durable architectural joint designs.
Who Should Attend:
This is an ideal webinar for professionals in the building and construction industry including those in business as well as technical roles.
