Licocene™ m-PO polymers are presented as a sustainable solution for carpet production, addressing the significant carpet waste problem in Europe where 1.6 million tons are generated annually with only 1-3% being recycled. The revolutionary mono-material concept using Licocene PP enables the creation of 100% recyclable polypropylene carpets with excellent tuft lock and durability at low coating weights. The product line includes renewable options through the mass-balance certified Licocene PP TERRA and features a Cradle-to-Cradle recycling concept developed in partnership with Fraunhofer IVV. These polymers have demonstrated performance across all carpet constructions including residential, commercial, woven, and aviation carpets. Clariant supports implementation through its technical center in Gersthofen, Germany, which offers pilot coating capabilities for application development and testing. The next generation carpet coating delivers triple benefits: superior performance (tuft bonding, durability), operational advantages (80% energy reduction, no wastewater), and sustainability benefits (improved carbon footprint, enhanced recyclability).

Learning Objective:

  1. Solving the carpet waste crisis: Licocene m-PO polymers directly address the significant carpet waste problem in Europe (1.6 million tons annually) by enabling 100% recyclable carpet production, dramatically improving on the current 1-3% recycling rate and reducing dependence on landfill (58-60%) and incineration (38-39%).

  2. Triple value proposition: The technology delivers benefits across three critical dimensions: Performance (superior tuft lock and durability), Operations (80% energy reduction, no wastewater, faster processing), and Sustainability (improved carbon footprint, enhanced recyclability).

  3. Versatile application across carpet types: Licocene PP demonstrates proven performance across all carpet constructions including residential, commercial, woven, and aviation applications, making it a versatile solution for the entire carpet industry.

  4. Renewable and circular options: Clariant offers renewable alternatives through mass balance certified Licocene PP TERRA products and has developed a patented Cradle-to-Cradle recycling concept with Fraunhofer IVV to support true circular economy implementation.

  5. Technical support for implementation: Customers can leverage Clariant's technical center in Gersthofen, Germany with its pilot coater capabilities for application development and testing, ensuring successful adoption of this innovative carpet coating technology.

Agenda

  • Carpet Sustainability Challenges: Overview of current waste statistics (1.6 million tons annually in Europe with only 1-3% recycled) and the urgent need for sustainable carpet solutions.
  • Recyclability Innovation: introduction to the mono-material concept using Licocene PP technology that enables 100% recyclable Polyolefin carpets while maintaining exellend tuft lock and durability
  • Performance Benefits: Demonstration of verified performance across residential, commercial, woven and aviation carpet constructions, highlighting dimensional stability, tuft bonding, and tear resistance
  • Technical Support & Development: Presentation of Clariant´s technical center in Gersthofen, Germany with its pilot coating capabilities for application development and testing to support scale-up and commercialization
  • Triple Value Proposition: Explanation of the three-fold benefits: superior performance (tuft bonding, durability), operational advantages (80% energy reduction, no wastewater), and sustainability improvements (reduced carbon footprint, enhanced recyclability).

Who Should Attend:

This webinar is ideal for professionals in business as well as technical functions in the B&C, assembly, transportation and carpet and artificial turf construction markets. R&D chemists, scientists, technology managers, TS&D and those in business development, sales & marketing, manufacturing process and engineering will learn about this new product from Clariant to help achieve sustainability goals for their company.
