Bostik Expands Capabilities for UV PSA Manufacturing
Bostik, adhesive solutions by Arkema, has invested in UV acrylic hot melt pressure sensitive adhesive (UV acrylic HMPSA) capabilities, which, effective April 2024, expands the manufacture of UV acrylic HMPSAs within its North American facilities and brings its high-performance portfolio to market.
“Our investment in UV acrylic HMPSA furthers our efforts to provide customers with more sustainable adhesive options that meet their ever-evolving application requirements,” said Stuart May, Bostik’s Global Pressure Sensitive Adhesives Segment Director. “As a division within Arkema, this is just one example of our company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact without sacrificing performance capabilities or output efficiencies needed by our customers.”
UV acrylic HMPSAs offer key cost and sustainability advantages. Based on internal testing and data, they enable production lines to run up to 5 times faster, depending on deposition and number of UV lights, because they do not require drying ovens. In addition to increasing production efficiencies, this capability decreases energy usage and plant footprint. Further, converters can achieve a much higher coat weight in a single pass compared to other technologies, which keeps production lines moving and manufacturing costs to a minimum while also reducing product waste.
