Description

Measurement of oscillatory viscoelastic properties of soft materials such as pressure sensitive adhesives and sealants is very important to understanding of formulation directions and performance prediction. In this webinar, we will focus on the practical aspects of sample preparation and testing techniques to ensure high quality data. Failure to understand these issues can lead to erroneous and misleading data and unnecessary costs in lost laboratory productivity. The webinar will cover issues of sample preparation and mounting, instrument control during the test, especially with regard to axial force applied to the sample and the magnitude of stress and/or strain used. We will also discuss how to take advantage of the visualization of raw data and the plotting of important test parameters to troubleshoot the process and determine if the data are of high quality.

Objectives:

  • Learn how to prepare samples for testing and mount them in the instrument
  • Understand temperature ramp vs. master curves and when to use them
  • Understand the role of axial force control and strain and stress control during testing
  • Know how to determine when data are suspect and troubleshoot the reasons why
  • Develop time-efficient test procedures to reliably produce high quality data
