Superphobic materials research has generated a lot of interest in the last decade due to the ability of treated surfaces to impart self-cleaning, increase corrosion prevention and drag reduction as well as the separation of liquids. Superphobic surface design requires an understanding of the significance of surface energy and roughness on producing high contact angles(above 150 degrees) with low/high surface tension liquids, and low contact angle hysteresis. 

This webinar will include a foundation of phobicity, review common approaches to acheive each type of phobic property along with their fundamental limitations.




Dr. Charles Paul, Vice President of Henkel Adhesive Technologies

Dr. Paul is responsible for technology assessments for M&A and Venturing and supports Open Innovation within North America for the R&D teams. Since joining Henkel in 1988 he has held a number of positions within R&D.  His experience covers almost all categories of adhesive and wide-ranging applications: from jet engines to hair spray, polyimides to starch.  Chuck holds over 50 US patents and coauthored numerous publications including five book chapters on adhesives. 

He has a BS in Chemical Engineering from Cornell University and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley, College of Chemistry.
