ASC ANNOUNCES RESEARCH STUDY IN THE
BUILDING AND CONSTRUCTION MARKET SEGMENT

August 19, 2019 – Alexandria, VA – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) ) has partnered with Ducker Frontier to provide ASC members visibility into market opportunities and growth potential in the Building and Construction Market in North America.

“Chemistry trends, specifications and materials are changing rapidly in the built environment,” said Dan Horner, CEO of Applied Products and ASC board member with oversight on the growth 2.0 initiative. “ASC has identified four elements of the building in which we will define opportunities” he said. “Roofing, vertical wall, below grade waterproofing and interior finishes are critical areas of the buildings where we will be focusing our initial efforts. These are key areas where we will begin our assessment.”

“ASC has contracted with Ducker Frontier to help triangulate where the best opportunities are within the building envelope for its members. The research will identify the best downstream partners as it relates to education and what ASC can do to capitalize with partners through the supply chain. The report will quantify the adhesive and sealant market in terms of size and utilization across the four building elements while identifying key applications as well as threats to the adhesive industry. Research will include commercial and residential buildings. Notable sections of the research will touch on trends in weatherization approaches, policy with energy, outlook on green chemistry and green certification programs, regulatory assessment as well as emerging and disruptive technologies” notes Steve Duren, Senior Director at ASC.

More info on the approach to the research can be viewed in my blog HERE.

“I am pleased and excited to be the chairman of this effort for ASC and believe that the 80 interviews with the variety of subject matter experts, chemists, federal officials, trade association personnel, specification writers, architects, building envelope specialists, scientists, contractors and designers will provide critical information and useful data to assist us in growing our industry. We are hopeful that this in depth market research will identify emerging technologies and key applications where our industry has the potential to provide sustainable solutions and take market share from mechanical fasteners” said Dave White, P.E., Senior Vice President Quality & Risk Management at Sika Corporation and Chairman of the growth 2.0 effort at ASC.

Ducker Frontier will issue a final report at the ASC Board Meeting in October 2019 and ASC will make the report available to its members shortly thereafter. ASC will be forming a Building & Construction Growth Task Force that will continue efforts after the publication of the report. Interested ASC members who would like to participate on the task force should contact Steve Duren.

ASC ANNOUNCES THE 2020 WORLD ADHESIVE AND SEALANT CONFERENCE & EXPO

May 7, 2019 – Alexandria, VA – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) is pleased to announce that it will serve as the official host of the 10th World Adhesive and Sealant Conference (WAC) scheduled for April 20-22, 2020 in Chicago. The theme will be “Securing the Future.” Serving as co-hosts are the Asia Regional Adhesive Council (ARAC) and FEICA, the Association of the European Adhesive and Sealant Industry.

This global conference is held once every four years and rotates between Asia, Europe, and North America.

“Because the World Adhesive and Sealant Conference brings together the worldwide industry—manufacturers, suppliers, distributors, service providers, and academia—in one place over the course of three days, it is truly unique and impactful,” said Bill Allmond, ASC’s President. “There is no other conference like it.”

WAC 2020 will take the place of ASC’s Annual Spring Convention and EXPO held each April, and will be held at the magnificent Hilton Chicago, conveniently located near Chicago’s most famous attractions.

“Over the last decade, our industry has seen significant growth both here in the U.S. and around the world,” said Brian McSwigan, Vice President of Pressure Sensitive Adhesives at Henkel Corporation and Chair of the ASC. “Business opportunities across our industry’s markets have been driven by innovation, efficiency improvements and strong leadership. While the future outlook is favorable, there continue to be concerns about international trade, raw material costs, skilled labor, and government regulation. These challenges are felt globally and require increased focus within our industry,” he said.

WAC2020 will feature keynotes from the industry’s leading companies and a full, two-day program with more than 80 speakers presenting on a variety of important topics such as sustainability, adhesives and raw materials development, key feedstocks, global regulatory developments, market disruptors, end user business needs, mergers and acquisitions, among others. Each region – Asia, Europe, and North America – will provide their own unique viewpoint and updates, providing attendees with a valuable opportunity to learn more about the latest adhesive and sealant developments taking place across the globe.

Additionally, the WAC EXPO will be held on April 21 and will feature more than 130 exhibitors.
“On behalf of The Adhesive and Sealant Council, our co-hosts and co-promoters, and the U.S. adhesive and sealant industry, we are honored to welcome the global community to WAC 2020 and look forward to seeing you in Chicago,” Allmond said.

For more information about WAC 2020, please visit www.WAC2020.org.

ASC ANNOUNCES PUBLICATION OF ADHESIVES & SEALANTS
BENEFITS GUIDE FOR THE RETAIL MARKETS

April 8, 2019 – Alexandria, VA – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) has published a chemicals management and sustainability benefits guide for adhesives and sealants intended for stakeholders in the retail market environment.

“Sourcing stakeholders in the big box and retail marketplace should be aware of the
efforts within ASC (see page 17) to help the policy writers within the retail environment to better understand the impact that adhesives and sealants have on key applications,” said Sharon Papke of Covestro and Chair of the ASC Retail Task Force.  “Increased energy savings and reducing air and water infiltration are just a few of the benefits adhesives and sealants provide,” she said. “This new benefits guide has been an industry effort by ASC members and addresses important adhesive/sealant applications along with the need for exposure considerations by retailer policy writers when it comes to risk assessment.”

“The benefits guide piece represents a brief overview on who ASC is, our members and the critical role that adhesives and sealants play in supplying the retail environment with safe products that provide a hidden function in thousands of applications.” notes Steve Duren, Senior Director at ASC. “The guide describes the process on where adhesives and sealants are featured as well as the type and function of the adhesives and sealants used,” he said. “The guide allows downstream users to further understand the value that adhesives and sealants play in critical applications. Risk assessment needs to be a multi attribute science-based approach and not a single hazard only request for transparency from retailers.”

The ASC Retail Task Force is focused on providing value chain partners with industry information that will help reduce confusion of end-users and retail buyers of ASC member products and grow the market for adhesives and sealants in the DIY marketplace.

The ASC DIY landing page on Adhesives.org contains guideswebinarswhitepapersblogsvideostools, and corporate sustainability reports that are intended to communicate the health and environmental benefits of ASC members products and show case actions of ASC member products that benefit the workplace and environment. More information can be found HERE. The new guide can be accessed HERE.

September 19, 2018 – Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) has published a selection guide for adhesives and sealants intended for stakeholders in the automotive and heavy truck OEM Paint, Trim and Final Assembly shops.

“OEM and Tier 1 stakeholders in the automotive marketplace should be aware of the efforts within ASC to help the design and specification community to better understand the impact that adhesives and sealants have on vehicle body structures,” said Chuck Schilling of Henkel and Chair of the ASC Task Force on Growth. “Light weighting, bonding dissimilar materials, and reducing noise vibration and harshness (NVH) are just a few of the benefits adhesives and sealants provide,” he said. “This new guide has been an industry effort and addresses key adhesive/sealant applications along with design and test considerations in the paint, trim and assembly stages of the automotive build.”

“This new guide focuses on the paint, trim and assembly shops and is now our second white paper resource used to help educate the design community on details with adhesives and sealants,” notes Steve Duren, Senior Director at ASC. “The guide describes the process on where adhesives and sealants are featured as well as the type and function of the adhesives and sealants used,” he said. “The guide allows downstream users to further understand the value that adhesives and sealants play in the assembly of a vehicle.”

The ASC Task Force on Growth is focused on providing value chain partners with industry neutral information that help ASC members grow the market for adhesives and sealants in the transportation marketplace. The ASC transportation landing page on Adhesives.org contains white papers, blogs, videos, reports, and on-demand webinars. More information can be found here. The new guide can be accessed HERE.
