Hypoallergenic Adhesive Helps Medical Device Tackle Snoring and Positional Apnea

Posted By ASC, Tuesday, November 5, 2019

It involves no straps and peg-like attachments, nor a piece of helmet-like sleep gear. Instead it involves a small and simple plastic device, a battery, and a special adhesive. According to Spanish medical device manufacturer Sibelmed the new easy-to-wear device, which adheres to the forehead with a hypoallergenic adhesive, may be the answer to one of the biggest threats to a happy marriage by cutting down on snoring as well as reducing positional sleep apnea.

Sibelmed reports that the new Somnibel battery-powered buzzer, soon to hit the marketplace, weighs in at a mere 17g, and its small size and ease of application using the single-use adhesive, has little impact on the snorer’s comfort when sleeping, although it does kick into action if the user sleeps in the wrong position. If snorers lie on their back at any point, the unit will start vibrating and buzzing to alert a snoring sleeper to shift back onto their side, a position commonly believed to lessen the likelihood of both snoring and positional sleep apnea.
