USPS Order Spurs Expansion of Customized Vehicles and Specialty Chassis Manufacturer

Spartan Motors, Inc., makers of customized vehicles and specialty chassis, has announced its plans to expand its Ephrata, Pennsylvania truck body manufacturing operation. The announcement follows the finalization of Spartan Motors’ contract to manufacture 2,000 trucks for the United States Postal Service (USPS). The contract, which tasks Spartan Motors with the supply of 2,000 vehicles, and which has a value of $214 million, is the largest that the company has ever undertaken. Adhesives and sealants will play a vital role in the manufacturing of these new trucks, since these vehicles will be expected to withstand demanding use from carriers' expected to deliver through "rain, sleet, and snow"!

The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic development provided a $300,000 grant to Spartan Motors and has pledged Job Creation Tax Credits to the value of $378,000. The company says that the funding proposal organized by the Governor’s Action Team proved to be a pivotal factor in its decision-making and that it chose to expand its Pennsylvania facilities rather than its premises in Michigan or Indiana based on the incentives offered.
