ASC SECURES ITS FIRST FEDERAL GRANT!
ASC is pleased to announce it has been awarded its first federal grant by
the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)! Under HUD's Partnership
for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) program, ASC is teaming up with
Newport Partners, a technical services consulting firm, to research how adhesives
may be used to create more durable and disaster-resistant roof assemblies
in existing and new residential housing stock. Current building standards
specify nails, which are prone to error. In areas susceptible to high winds
and hurricanes, there is a need to create a more durable and effective fastener
system. This project will work to identify, develop, and test adhesive roof
sheathing fastening systems that can be shown to meet and/or exceed current
building code requirements. These systems will be developed and documented
with the intention of preparing the technology for inclusion into residential
building code or standard status.
This $200k project includes 75% grant monies provided by HUD with the balance
funded by the ASC as in-kind labor. The project kicked off in May and is expected
to take one year to complete. This is an exciting development for the ASC,
which we hope will uncover new business opportunities in the housing industry
for adhesives, and also give the Council experience in working with a federal
agency that will help pave the way for additional grant opportunities.
