Webinar Time: March 23, 2016; 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM ET

Background:

Adhesion failures can have immense impact on the long term stability of structures and joints. Among the various factors that can impact adhesion include nature of the substrate, nature of the adhesive and environmental conditions. Bonding dissimilar substrates is more difficult due to the lack of adhesives that can interact with each of the substrates. Surface preparation can help overcome the challenges posed by the dissimilar nature of the substrates. Plasma treatment has proven to be very effective in terms of achieving optimal adhesion between dissimilar substrates. It is a very effective method of surface cleaning and preparation prior to adhesive application.

Session Description:

This webinar covers the fundamentals of plasma treatment including the effect of plasma on various substrates. Specific examples of adhesion to plastics, metals and rubber substrates will be presented. Some of the newer applications of plasma where the technology has been used for depositing nanoscale coatings will also be presented.
