3M Donates Dental Sealants to Dental Association’s Program for Underprivileged Kids

Posted By ASC, Thursday, October 13, 2016

The American Dental Association’s Give Kids a Smile program is a charitable initiative that provides free oral healthcare to children from low-income families. Dental sealants are used for cavity prevention, and are often recommended for use when kids are at particular risk of tooth decay. Now 3M has donated 3,000 sealant kits to the ADA to boost the program.

The donation has an estimated value of $250,000, and each kit can be used for up to 140 applications. Kits consist of two of 3M’s Clinpro™ Sealant syringes, a 3M™ Scotchbond™ Etchant syringe20 sealant syringe tips, and 25 etchant syringe tips. The kits will be sent to participating dentists in January 2017. These volunteers will then be able to prevent 70-80% of cavities in children treated with this form of dental prophylaxis, a result which has been confirmed in clinical trials.
