BASF has introduced a new sealant that can be used on fresh (green) concrete within 24 hours of form removal. Previously, construction professionals have had to wait for up to 21 days before sealants could be applied to concrete. The company reports that MasterSeal SL100 will keep horizontal joints watertight, even in unfavorable conditions, and will speed up construction processes and limit delays caused by rainy weather. The UV resistant sealant can be used on a wide range of substrates including concrete, metal and stone, has a skin time of 5 – 45 minutes, and can be painted after curing.
The product was tested by a Texas construction company, and its director says that the sealant skinned over in just 5 minutes. In addition, the sealant’s viscosity allowed for easy gun application. The company reports that field results confirm that the new sealant will save building contractors both time and money, and the re-sealable packaging eliminates material waste.
