Wacker Chemie AG has announced that it will be expanding its manufacturing capacity in Jincheon, South Korea. A new site is being developed for the manufacture of silicone sealants, speciality silicones and liquid silicone rubber. In addition, existing facilities in Jincheon will relocate to the new site. The new facility is expected to be up and running by early 2018.
Like many other manufacturers of adhesives and sealants in the region, Wacker is experiencing growing demand for its products from the construction, automotive and electronics industries. A Wacker executive says that the Asian market for sealants and encapsulants is growing rapidly and that expanding its business in Asia forms an important part of the company’s strategy.
Wacker has been operating in Jincheon since 2010, but current facilities cannot be expanded owing to spatial constraints. Existing production facilities will be dismantled and moved to the new site late next year.
