Dow Packaging and Nordmeccanica have announced a new lamination technology that combines new machinery with new adhesives. The newSYMBIEX™ Solventless Adhesives cures rapidly, and can be used in conjunction with Nordmeccanica’s Duplex SL One Shot™ lamination line. The announcement follows the collaboration agreement between Dow and Nordmeccanica 18 months ago.
The companies say that their combined innovations will improve efficiencies, reducing time to market and conversion costs. Laminations can be slit after 90 minutes compared to the current standard of 24 hours. Additional benefits include the elimination of pot life and mixer concerns, reduced production line downtime and curing inventory, the ability to use laminated materials in less than a day while still achieving food compliance, the elimination of misting and improved wettability, no adhesive wastage, easier equipment cleaning, and the ability to perform quality control checks within 30 minutes of lamination.
The new laminating equipment ensures that the two component adhesive only begins its chemical reaction at the lamination nip station. This means that no mixing unit is needed while pot life issues are eliminated. As a result, machines require less downtime and are easy to clean.
