ASC CELEBRATES SENATE APPROVAL OF TSCA REFORM
June 10, 2016 – Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) applauds the Senate’s passage of legislation to reform the decades-old Toxic Substance Control Act of 1976 (TSCA). The Senate voice vote under unanimous consent necessitates only President Barack Obama’s signature for the measure to become law.
ASC has been a leading advocate of TSCA reform for more than eight years and a founding member of the Alliance for American Innovation, a coalition of trade associations representing a broad spectrum of the economy dedicated to creating a more transparent and evidence-based chemical review program.
“The widespread support for this legislation is testament both to the urgent need to update U.S. chemical safety laws and the ability of Congress to still be able to come together to solve important problems facing our country,” said Mark Collatz, ASC’s Director of Regulatory Affairs. “The compromises worked out through the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act will restore a regulatory framework that protects human health and the environment, while providing a greater regulatory certainty for chemical manufacturers and their down-stream customers such as adhesive and sealant manufacturers.”
“The Council looks forward to working with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the coming months as they begin the rulemaking process to implement this historic measure,” said Collatz.
The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) is a North American trade association dedicated to representing the adhesive and sealant industry. The Council is comprised of 138 adhesive and sealant manufacturers, raw material and equipment suppliers, distributors and industry consultants, representing more than 75% of the U.S. industry with operations around the world.
