I returned recently from the ASC Spring Convention and EXPO held in New Orleans April 18-20.
As a 20-year association professional who has managed a few events over the years, there is nothing more fulfilling than bringing 560+ professionals to an event – uniting the industry for a few days of education, training and networking.
We set a course a few years ago that focused on ASC member engagement – bringing new and different value propositions to our member companies in order for them to grow, manage and innovate via ASC programming. Each program was designed with the following question in mind: how can we add value to ASC membership?
I joined ASC on March 15, 2010 and have enjoyed and appreciated the past six years of serving as your President. I have informed the Board that I will be leaving ASC on June 17th to join the American Gear Manufacturers Association as its President.
I leave incredibly encouraged by the growth ASC has experienced!
- Our flagship events are attracting record levels of participation.
- Our EXPO has nearly tripled in size in just six years.
- Our reports include all of our primary markets, and technologies.
- Our regulatory affairs are proactive, and engaged.
- Our industry now has an industry-developed Training Academy Certificate Program for new employees.
- Our growth program is training design engineers on the value we bring to the transportation sector
The future is bright for ASC – and I will miss the people who have encouraged this growth. The power of association is found in the people who drive programming including the Board of Directors and the many members who volunteer their time.
But it also takes a strong association team back at headquarters or at local offices across the country – and ASC is blessed with a group of staff that goes to work every day trying to help members.
Malinda, Steve, Connie, Kate, Mark, Myranda, Mike, Mani, Sarah and Val are all part of the team that I’ve had the honor of working with to engage ASC members via programming and services.
Thank you to everyone for your support, and I look forward to continuing to add value right up to June 17th and beyond!
Traci Jensen of H.B. Fuller and the Executive Committee has formed a search committee which includes Chuck Williams of Avery, Brian McSwigan of Henkel, Matt Devine of DHM Adhesives, Christian MacIver of Ingevity, and Rusty Thompson of Evans Adhesive Corporation, as well as Traci. They have updated the job description, and are fully engaged in the process.
ASC has hired Association Strategies – a boutique search firm that specializes in the DC association community -- to help find the next president. A copy of the 'ASC President Position Profile' can be viewed HERE. The plan is to have face-to-face interviews in late July and early August. The Search Committee believes it will be able to announce the next President in August – and they will attend the Fall Convention and EXPO in Indianapolis, IN in October.
I’m proud of our accomplishments, but also believe that the next person will be able to take ASC even higher with fresh ideas and new perspectives on some of the challenges and opportunities facing our industry.
As always, we are here for you at ASC – don’t hesitate to contact me between now and June if we can help your company.
With best personal regards,
