Adhesives used to bond substrates such as polypropylene and polyethylene have traditionally required the use of primer, plasma, corona or flame treatments, but L&L Products has launched a new adhesive that cures rapidly at room temperature, and that is compatible with other substrates including metal. The adhesive, A-K540, is the first of its kind to allow for room temperature curing, has a high tensile strength and is impact resistant.
The automotive industry is expected to be the primary market for the new product, where it will be used for structural bonding of interior trim as well as the assembly of polypropylene and thermoplastic polyolefin, talc filled bumper modules. Other materials that can be assembled and mounted using the adhesive include glass mat thermoplastics and long glass fiber polypropylene. Manufacturers can use the product on either a small or large scale, with L&L offering the adhesive in package sizes ranging from cartridges as small as 0,1 pints to 50 gallon drums.
