2016 will once again see the introduction of new adhesives for a variety of applications. 3M Industrial Adhesives and Tapes has recently released its new Scotch-Weld acrylic adhesive, a two part adhesive that remains workable for 25 minutes, curing to a strength of 1,000 psi within 50 minutes. 3M’s new acrylic adhesive has a higher impact resistance than other acrylic adhesives on the market, and has a shelf-life of 18 months without requiring refrigeration.
On the medical appliances front, Dymax Corp has released 1405-M-UR-SC, a light-curing adhesive suitable for needle bonding applications. Once again, Dymax has made use of its See-Cure color change and Ultra-red fluorescing properties to make quality control and inspection easier for medical device manufacturers. When uncured, the adhesive is blue in color, but once cured it becomes clear. When exposed to low intensity black light, the adhesive fluoresces red, allowing for easy inspection of the bond. 1405-M-UR-SC is suitable for bonding stainless steel, polycarbonate, acrylic and ABS.
