ASC LAUDS PASSAGE OF S. 697
December 18, 2015 – Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) commends the Senate for its overwhelming vote in favor of S. 697, the “Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act.” The vote occurred on December 17th via voice vote.
“ASC is pleased to see the procedural votes that kept TSCA Reform from moving forward have been resolved, and S. 697 can now move to conference with H.R. 2576 which was voted on back in late June,” notes Matthew E. Croson, President of ASC. “ASC looks forward to working with the American Alliance for Innovation to support a final bill that could be signed by President Obama in early 2016. When I joined ASC in 2010, I was briefed that TSCA Reform was ASC’s primary legislative focus, and we have worked many years and held many meetings with both Members and Hill staffers to first educate, then discuss, and ultimately develop an opportunity for strong bi-partisan support of two bills (H.R. 2576 and S. 697).
This vote is a historic one that allows both the chemicals supply chain and consumers to feel confident in how chemicals are used in commerce – something that has been needed for decades. ASC would also like to commend Senators Udall, Vitter and Inhofe for their considerable efforts and patience to develop and pass comprehensive bi-partisan legislation; without their years of dedicated service to this issue, TSCA Reform would not have happened. ASC would also like to recognize the Bill’s namesake, Frank R. Lautenberg (deceased), former Senator from New Jersey, who worked for years to attempt bi-partisan legislation – his efforts have finally paid off, which will build on his legacy as a true Senate leader.”
S. 697 will move to conference with H.R. 2576 which was passed on June 23, 2015. It is expected that a final bill will move to President Obama in early 2016.
