Start up company Soft Health Technologies
has launched a hydrophilic foam patch designed for women suffering from Stress Urinary Incontinence. The device prevents leakages instead of using the traditional absorption approach. An adhesive hydrogel makes this over-the-counter device practical, allowing women suffering from this condition to enjoy an active lifestyle without fear of embarrassment. The FDA has already cleared the device which will be sold under the brand name ‘Finess' after successful clinical trials. The Finess is placed over the urethral opening, and the adhesive forms an effective seal. Adhesive hydrogels are resistant to moisture but although they are sticky, they don’t adhere to cells, making hydrogel coated medical products easy to remove comfortably. The secret to hydrogel adhesion is pressure rather than a bond formed between skin cells and the adhesive.
