New Adhesive from Arkema for ‘Difficult’ Packaging Films Eliminates Primers, Saves Energy

Posted By ASC, Wednesday, October 28, 2015
Oxygen barrier films and the relatively slow process of bonding unprimed reverse printing films to metallized films have presented packaging-lines with challenges in the past. But Arkema’s new adhesive, Lotader 4613 will simplify the packaging process. Not only is it possible to us the adhesive without making use of a primer, but it can be used at temperatures of 68F (20C) or lower, allowing for energy savings. This innovation will offer opportunities for greater bond strength or the ability to increase packaging-line productivity without compromising bond strength. Lotader 4613 melts at a temperature approaching 212F (100C), increasing the thermal resistance of packaging. The adhesive forms part of the Lotader range which includes adhesives for unprimed films, primed films, and adhesives intended for blending with Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE). The addition of Lotader 4613 increases the range of solutions available to the flexible packaging industry.
