In response to the demand for bio-based labelling products, Avery Dennison has launched two versions of a self-adhesive bio-based polyethylene (PE) film label. The labels consist of 80% renewable materials and were developed in collaboration with worldwide resin producer Braskem and Belgium-based Desmedt Labels. Cleaning products manufacturers Ecover made their facilities in Belgium available for testing of the prototype labels. A clear film label and an opaque white version using ethically produced Bonsucro Certified Sugar Cane-based resin adhesive have resulted from this collaborative effort. According to Avery Dennison, the recyclability of the new labels is comparable to that of labels utilizing standard PE85 resin and reduces dependency on fossil-fuel-based products. Manufacturers who wish to apply the eco-friendly adhesive labelling technology will not need to make any alterations to existing production lines in order to do so.
