Eight Courses Will Present Fundamentals of Training for the Industry in 2013; More Being Considered
December 21, 2012 – Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) announces that its Training Academy program for 2013 will consist of eight webinars in during the year, with five currently on the calendar, and three being placed in early 2013.
“ASC’s Training Academy will build on the foundational success it experienced in 2012, with a strong program that includes new, never before produced webinars, as well as the traditional training programs that the industry has relied on to keep up with emerging technologies,” said Matthew E. Croson, President of ASC. “We are also working to incorporate some of the successful programs we delivered in 2012, during 2013 and will be announcing additions to the calendar in early 2013 once details are finalized.”
The 2013 ASC Training Academy program and descriptions are:
Adhesive and Sealant Technology Types – a Two Part Course on various technology types. - February 6 + 13, 2013
Trainer: Dr. Hartwig Lohse of Klebtechnik
Develop an understanding of various adhesives and sealants technology types in the Building and Construction, Assembly, and Transportation segments. Review the fundamentals of adhesive bonding and the principles associated with creating reliable bonds as the foundation to understanding technology types and uses. Explore the various adhesive technologies available on the market and the basis of each presented in an easy to understand way. Learn about typical applications from primary markets as well as the strengths and weaknesses of each technology. Gain an understanding of future trends, new developments and the opportunities for the industry.
Assembly Operations 101 - March 6, 2013
Trainer: Dave Nick of DPNA International
Gain a greater knowledge of Adhesives and Sealants in Assembly Operations including their use in appliances, electronics, alternative energy, and medical equipment. Understand the options for assembling components and joint design while exploring the strengths and weaknesses of these options. Learn about how adhesives and sealants are currently in use and where they have potential for growth including the area of micro electronics.
Adhesives 101 – a Two Part Course on the Core Foundation of Adhesives – May 8 + 15, 2013
Trainer: Dick Hartshorn of ChemQuest
Acquire the essential foundation of knowledge necessary for understanding the science and technology behind adhesives and the many markets and applications that benefit from their use. Adhesives 101 will help participants better understand the science behind adhesive technologies, the benefits adhesives bring to specific applications and how they improve product design and streamline industrial production.
Packaging 101 - July 10, 2013
Trainer: Dave Horwat
Learn about the different types of adhesives bonding and application methods related to their use in the packaging industry. Understand application equipment selection while understanding how to identify the quality characteristics of an adhesive and the sources for variation in quality. Explore the considerations used in selecting adhesives and determining the best fit, the limitations of adhesives, and final performance.
Additives 101 – September 18, 2013
Trainer: Dave Horwat
Learn the basics of additives including plasticizers, tackifiers, fillers, thickeners with PVOH, wetting agents, dispersants, defoamers, biocides, adhesion promoters, humectants, safe solvents, xlinkers, antioxidants and waxes. Explore the subclasses within each additive, the benefits and limitations of each additive, typical uses, use levels, and the effect on application and performance.
“With an effort to educate users of adhesives and sealants, while providing valuable training to our member companies – we have an exciting line-up of End User and Member focused webinars coming next year,” said Nick Mancusi, Education Manager for ASC. “The Training Academy is providing fantastic value for our members and users of adhesives and sealants as they gain a robust foundation of the industry and explore emerging trends that impact the supply chain.”
ASC will be adding additional courses over the year as we expand the Training Academy to incorporate some of the successful programming delivered in 2012, and add new program based on industry dialogue and need.
