Trade Association Partners with Professional Society For Meetings Management, Member Recruitment/Retention Efforts
Bethesda, MD – March 20, 2013 – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) announces that it will be managing aspects of the Adhesion Society (AS)– supporting its Annual Meeting and member retention and recruitment efforts. ASC will work closely with the professional society in order to seamlessly manage the 200+ attendance AS Annual Meeting and growing their 300+ membership base.
“ASC is thrilled to be working closely with the AS on their flagship meeting, which draws the leading scientists and researchers from the adhesion community for four days of focused presentations, innovation sharing and networking,” says Matthew E. Croson, President of ASC. “The Adhesion Society has a long history of collaborating as a community to build its dynamic, 100+ sessions meeting program, and we look forward to partnering with the volunteer leadership to support their efforts.”
The Adhesion Society was formed in 1978 to respond to the need for a multidisciplinary forum to discuss adhesion issues. The AS meets annually to present technical papers focused on a variety of issues, ranging from surfaces interactions, structural adhesion, contact mechanics, liquid interactions, bio-derived materials, single molecule adhesion, nano and micro structured assemblies, etc. The AS also produces short courses, poster sessions, and an EXPO as part of its annual meeting.
“ASC believes strongly in the mission of the Adhesion Society, as the work that its membership focuses on becomes commercially viable innovation for the industry to formulate,” notes Croson. “There has always been a strong synergy between the two groups, and ASC’s goal is to make the collaborative partnership a long term value added effort that mutually benefits both organizations.”
As part of the arrangement, ASC will commit resources to support the meetings and convention needs for the AS. Malinda Armstrong, ASC’s Senior Manager, Meetings and Tradeshows will be the primary contact person for the Adhesion Society’s members. The AS will continue to maintain its website at www.adhesionsociety.org and remain independent from the Council as a non-profit, professional society entity.
“We look forward to partnering with ASC to add value to our meeting and other areas where mutual benefits can be developed,” said Dr. Kenneth Shull, Professor at Northwestern University and President of the Adhesion Society. “We have already discussed collaborating on sharing Society meeting papers via adhesives.org and working to promote the benefits of the Society to ASC members. Over time, we look forward to making this collaboration a strong win for both organizations.”
ASC will managing the Adhesion Society’s programming beginning immediately, supporting the 2014 Adhesion Society Annual Meeting being held February 23-26, 2014 in San Diego, CA.
“The ASC and AS will remain separate entities as they are different in form and function, with the Council more focused on industry concerns, including regulatory affairs and market growth,” notes Croson. “However, the Adhesion Society’s offices will be housed within the Council’s headquarters in Bethesda, MD and they will share a mailing address and phone number.”
