Chemical Safety Improvement Act Impacts ASC Member Companies


Bethesda, MD, June 3, 2013 -- Last week ASC notified members of the exciting news that a number of Senate Republicans and Democrats had come together to introduce a bipartisan proposal to reform the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). The Chemical Safety Improvement Act of 2013 (CSIA) (S.1009) is groundbreaking legislation that will finally ensure the all chemicals are screened to protect public health and the environment while also creating a legislative framework that allows ASC members continue to innovate, grow and create jobs.


ASC has developed this Executive Briefing in order for you to understand how S. 1009 impacts ASC members, and to compare S. 1009 to the principles ASC wanted to ensure were incorporated into TSCA Reform.


Two years ago, ASC’s Board of Directors approved an ASC TSCA Policy Statement which included four bedrock principles that Board members believed must be incorporated in any reform legislation. The four principles are outlined below, along with a brief explanation on how each is addressed in S.1009.
