ASC RAPID RESPONSE TEAM TO SERVE AS INDUSTRY VOICE

New Grassroots Program Ensures Legislators and Regulators Understand Industry Positions

July 18, 2013, Bethesda, MD – The Adhesive and Sealant Council (ASC) has developed a new program designed to foster industry responses to legislative and regulatory issues impacting the adhesive and sealant sector:  The ASC Rapid Response Team.

The ASC Rapid Response Team is made up of between 1-3 individuals at each member company.  Their mission is to respond to regulatory alerts issued by the Council via letters developed by the regulatory affairs team and issued via the newly created ASC Action Alert Center.  The grassroots program is a new program for the Council and is part of its proactive regulatory affairs strategy to support the industry.

“The ASC Rapid Response Team is a dedicated set of industry professionals who stand ready and willing to respond to a call for action when ASC determines an industry response is appropriate or critical,” notes Matthew E. Croson, President of ASC.  “While ASC serves as the industry’s voice, it is often the local voice that makes the strongest argument on any given piece of legislation or regulation, and the ASC Rapid Response Team will help the Council ensure that the industry’s voice is heard.  We’re pleased to note that we have 100% participation from the 128 member companies of ASC.”

The ASC Rapid Response Team will respond to a variety of legislative and regulatory issues.  For 2013, ASC is focusing its regulatory affairs efforts on TSCA Reform, California Safer Chemicals Rules, Canadian Chemical Management Plan, South Coast Rule 1168, MDI/TDI Chemical Action Plan, REACH Chemical of High Concern List, and USGBC’s LEED.

“ASC’s regulatory affairs committee has focused the Council’s  efforts on issues that directly impact our industry, and the ASC Rapid Response Team will be the ‘go-to’ resource when a letter is needed, input required or other data or information needs to be shared directly from member companies,” adds Croson.   “Rapid Response Team members will be able to send their own letter, or leverage the recently launched Action Alert Center found here.”

The ASC Action Alert Center was launched in June 2013, and is a software driven product that allows ASC to share draft messaging with the Rapid Response Team, automatically determines which Senator, Representative or Regulator to address the response to, and then efficiently disseminates the letter with a simple click of a button.

“Strategically, the Council has completely overhauled its regulatory affairs efforts and become a stronger, proactive, cohesive value driver for the industry,” notes Croson.  “In just 18 months, we re-developed our regulatory affairs committee, developed our first ever issues briefs which prioritize our regulatory affairs focus areas, invested in the Action Alert Center to support industry responses, and now we have launched our Rapid Response Team – ensuring that we have industry resources dedicated to pulling the message trigger when an issue directly impacts their business.”

The move from reactive to proactive regulatory affairs is part of a Board driven discussion to add value to the Council.

“Our Board felt we had an opportunity to add value to our member companies by refocusing our internal efforts on regulatory affairs and leveraging the power of our industry via stronger collaboration and software tools that enable communications,” adds Croson.  “We established a three year time frame and defined success milestones that included meeting with influencers, establishing regulatory affairs contacts at each member company, and beginning grassroots efforts.  We are now poised to respond thoughtfully and collectively as and industry, and begin executing on this strategic value driver, while also considering other ways we can support the industry via regulatory affairs.”
