iXsenic®, created by Evonik’s strategic innovation unit, is a new inorganic metal-oxide semiconductor material that could revolutionize the display industry. Semiconductors in high definition television are made of amorphous silicon, but silicon has reached the extent of its performance for this application. With iXsenic,® plastics can be used to create flexible displays. The new inorganic metal-oxide semiconductor from Evonik is also high performance, low cost, and can be applied from solution at ambient temperatures. In addition, the coating technology for this product forms a bride for the printing of electronic components. This technology is likely to make its way into TVs, tablets and smartphones. Evonik and customers are working on the final development stages for new products and initial trials have already begun.
